Description
Ship in a Harbour by L S Lowry Original Drawing
Original Pencil on Paper, hand signed L S Lowry & dated 1950.
A scene so familiar to us from Lowry’s magisterial paintings of the North-East coast port of Sunderland, but the ambition of this drawing is very different. It is as if Lowry wanted to prove, as he wrote on the back of a late life drawing that he could still do it.’ That this unique style of painting was not the result of a natural talent, or a naive painter, but a considered choice, hard-won. Supported by authentication input from Michael Howard and over six years of research by Jeff Anderson, the work carries strong scholarly backing. A concise and characterful example of Lowry’s early industrial vision.
Full research documents and original COA’s included upon purchase hand signed by Michael Howard and Jeff Anderson.
