Description

Nagomi by Ross Constable

Nagomi, meaning emotional balance in Japanese, is a wonderful composition by Cheshire artist Ross Constable inspired by Japanese art.  Taking inspiration from Japanese artist Hokusai, Ross uses a Yin and Yang motif with the ducks in the foreground grounding the composition in nature as the viewer is taken along Manchester’s waterways into the city.  The bridge which frames the upper region of the painting references Valette’s bridge paintings which went on to to inspire his student and Manchester’s most famous artist, L S Lowry.

Every Ross Constable painting not only contains a wealth of depth and symbolism but also reminds us all of the power of nature in every environment, the positive sentiment that drives all of Ross’ work.
