Night Reflections by James Lawrence Isherwood

Original oil on canvas painting of Spinola in Malta by Lawrence Isherwood.  Isherwood only travelled internationally for a limited period of his life, particularly in the late 1970s when his partner, Pat White, had a home on the island.  A small series of paintings of Malta were therefore produced at this time reflecting if his life during these years.

Likewise, the canvas that this painting is painted on is also indicative of the time.  Isherwood predominantly painted on hardboard but during this period, he painted a series of paintings on canvas having been gifted sixty canvases for his 60th birthday by part.  The painting is signed on the from, titled on the reverse and comes directly from Pat White’s family.
