Moonlight Tower Bridge by James Lawrence Isherwood

A beautiful original oil painting by the late Wigan artist James Lawrence Isherwood.  Having exhibited many times in London during his lifetime, Isherwood tackles the iconic subject matter of Tower Bridge in this gorgeous and arresting moonlit scene.  In a more subtle colour palette than many of his works, the tones and brushwork are truly stunning.

Painted on hardboard as was generally the case with Isherwood, this particular painting is signed by Isherwood and titled to the reverse and also marked with the letter ‘L’ denoting it as one of his best works and approved by his mother Lily.  The painting also bears it’s original numbered exhibition label from one of the Isherwood families official sales at Wigan Town Hall.
