Description
Pointing Figures by Theodore Major
A charming small oil painting on board by the late Appley Bridge artist Theodore Major.
Widely revered as one of the Twentieth Centuries often overlooked talents, critic John Berger once wrote that Major’s paintings ‘deserve to hang amongst the best English paintings of our time’.
Such is the scarcity and demand for Major’s works, very rarely do these small compositions come to market with most worked already snapped up and in private or public collections. Executed on board, this painting demonstrates Major’s classic techniques representing the working class figures in a warmer and more whimsical composition than was often the case. A truly rare gem and wonderful addition to any Major collection or collection of Northern art. Signed verso.
