Description
Mrs Fairhurst by Theodore Major
In Major’s own words, Mrs Fairhurst ‘worked for Kathleen and me when we lived in Swindley Road. Everyone thought she was a bit mad, but she wasn’t, but she talked to herself’.
‘She’s a marvellous person but I just couldn’t get her to sit on the chair while I made a sketch of her, I had to do everything from memory. I said “Mrs Fairhurst, come on up to the studio, I want to paint you” but she’s too busy doing housework, that was more important to her’.
‘I’ve painted many pictures of her from memory, I think some of those are some of the best I’ve painted’.

Signed to the reverse.
