Pierre La Faguays
Pierre Le Faguays was a French sculptor and designer born in Nantes in 1892. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, where he developed a foundation in classical sculpture before moving toward the more modern, expressive aesthetics that would define his career.
Le Faguays became closely associated with the Parisian Art Deco movement during the 1920s and 1930s, working alongside artists such as Marcel-André Bouraine and Max Le Verrier. He frequently used pseudonyms—most notably Guerbe—for certain commissions, especially those produced for decorative arts manufacturers.
Le Faguays became a highly successful and prolific sculptor whose works were widely distributed through the Paris bronze and decorative arts foundries, including Le Verrier and Susse Frères. His sculptures were exhibited at major Salons, and he received prestigious awards such as the Prix de la Sculpture. His elegant Art Deco figures—produced in bronze, spelter, terracotta, and sometimes ivorine—became internationally popular and remain sought after by collectors today.
