New Northern Art in May

We have a busy month ahead in the galleries with our twentieth anniversary celebrations headlined by a Sherree Valentine Daines exhibition at Heskin on 22nd May and Ross Constable appearing in the Wilmslow Gallery on 8th May.  We do hope you can join us at either event to raise a glass and toast twenty years of wonderful art.

In addition to the exhibitions, we have some wonderful new Northern art paintings in the galleries including a brand new collection of original paintings by the eternally popular late Wigan artist, Lawrence Isherwood.

Wigan Queen Street Original Oil painting by James Lawrence Isherwood

Queen Street Wigan, Oil on Board, £2300 (On show in Heskin)

One of the stand out pieces amongst the new collection is ‘Queen Street, Wigan’, a classic subject matter and always one of Isherwood’s most sought after.  We are always on the hunt for these Wigan gems so it’ great to have this available.

Wigan Rain Original Oil Painting by James lawrence Isherwood

Wigan Rain, Oil on Board, £1595 (On show in Heskin)

From the same collection, this classic figures paintings was originally purchased in the early 1990s from one of the Isherwood family estate sales at Wigan Town Hall and comes to market for the first time since.

Women and Boy with Ball by James Lawrence Isherwood

Woman and Boy With Ball, Oil on Board, £1595 (On show in Heskin)

The third Isherwood in the collection is a truly unique minimalist composition featuring the familiar shawled figure along with a boy and ball.  An original oil ahead of it’s time.

Black Isle, Inverness, Oil on Board, £995 (On show in Heskin)

New Original Paintings by Geoffrey Key

This week we have two new original oil paintings by Salford’s Octogenarian artist Geoffrey Key.

The first of the two original oil paintings is the wonderful Chimneyscape dating from 2011 depicting a classic urbanscape from Geoffrey.  Having not painted these scenes for a number of years, this particularly fine example is a wonderful find.

The second of the two paintings dates from 2014 and is a joyous and uplifting landscape painting by the artist. With his bold tones typical of his post 2000 works, this piece again is on a striking scale and would sit wonderfully in any Key collection.

Both works are available to view in the galleries now with the landscape hanging in the Heskin gallery and the Chimneyscape in Wilmslow.  If you would like to arrange to view either at either gallery, do not hesitate to let us know.

With many other new works by Northern artists in the gallery this week including a new Isherwood collection, Lucy Manfredi paintings and John Thompson’s this week, we do hope you can call in and take a look in person.

John Thompson Collection

We also have a fantastic display of original paintings by John Thompson on show in the Wilmslow gallery at present with full details available on the website.

The collection is headlined by the fantastic Group Series painting below which features John’s well known working class figures and is accompanied with a superb newspaper article which shows John with this actual painting.

Seasons with Lucy Manfredi

Lucy Manfredi’s two latest paintings have arrived in the gallery this week too and could not be more contrasting as she sees off the winter season with a beautiful snow scene and welcomes in Spring and Summer with an incredible Abersoch beach scene.

Out in the Cold, Settle, Oil on Board, £750 (On show in Wilmslow)

The Abersoch beachscape takes us on a journey to the seaside with Lucy’s familiar characters, retaining the charm of Lucy’s work but taking the narrative in a new direction.  The first of it’s type to be available openly, previous examples of this larger format seascape from Lucy have been sold pre launch so we are thrilled to have this painting currently available on a first come first served basis.
